Lia Lesnick, LMSW

Primary Therapist - Bariatrics

Lia is very excited to be a part of The Healing Connection team as a primary therapist and bariatric mental health evaluation supervisor. She completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the State University of New York at Geneseo followed by a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Roberts Wesleyan College. Throughout her graduate studies, Lia has received training in substance use and community mental health through Huther Doyle. She has also completed the Rochester Institute of Technology Counseling Center training program where she received clinical experience providing individual, group, emergency/crisis services to a diverse college population presenting with a wide range of concerns. Lia has also spent time volunteering as a hospice caregiver at the Aurora house and as a youth mentor through Compeer Rochester. Lia’s training in clinical social work has provided her with opportunities to work with teens, adults, and families. Her areas of clinical interest and expertise include supporting people through anxiety, difficult life transitions (illness, transitioning to college, loss/grief, etc.), substance use, depression, body image issues, eating disorders, and relationship difficulties. Her intention in working with clients is to guide them through finding meaning and understanding to what they are experiencing and to support her clients in implementing long lasting change. Lia has developed an integrative therapeutic approach that is both person-centered and collaborative. She is committed to creating a safe and inclusive therapeutic space that welcomes the exploration and discussion of personal identities (e.g., race, gender, LGBTQ+ identities, religious faith, etc.).

Areas of focus: Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Eating Disorders, Grief and Loss, Dual-Diagnosis and Adjustment Disorders.

Interventions most used: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT); Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused; Psychodynamic Therapy; Relational Therapy; Humanistic Therapy; Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).
